The Pediatric Advocacy-Leadership-Service (PALS) is a three-year track integrated with categorical pediatrics, focused on primary care service to the underserved in urban and rural communities. The mission is to train pediatric physicians who are fierce child health advocates, particularly for the underserved, and are specifically interested in primary care and skills for effective advocacy and leadership.
The Pediatric Science Development Program is a research-oriented track focused on developing pediatrician-scientists dedicated to improving child health through discovery. It is an individualized six-year program that combines residency and fellowship. We look for candidates who have a proven track record of interest and skill in discovery in a broad set of scientific disciplines. Note, you do not need a PhD -- many of our trainees do clinical research, data science research, or health services research, and while some go on to pursue fellowship, others take research years supported by our NIH R38 program.
The Medicine-Pediatrics combined residency is a four-year program allowing graduates to pursue dual-board certification paired with rewarding career opportunities encompassing the care of both adults and children. Residents are given comprehensive clinical training in the care of newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients as well as training in transitions of care. Our residents' continuity clinic is a combined adult/pediatric clinic in an underserved community near Pittsburgh. Our graduates go on to exciting careers as primary care providers and subspecialists in both community and academic settings.
The Child Neurology and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities programs are five- and six-year programs (respectively) committed to training physicians interested in both pediatrics and neurology. The NDD program offers a dedicated, mentored research year to allow residents to develop a substantial scholarly project and hone investigatory skills within various fields of developmental neuroscience. The traditional values of this program include total commitment to patient care, love of the intellectual community whether learning or teaching, scholarship, and respect for our patients, students, colleagues, and each other.
The Triple Board combined residency/fellowship is a five-year program offering the unique opportunity to train at the interface of pediatrics and psychiatry. Graduates of this program are triple boarded in pediatrics, psychiatry, and child psychiatry. We look for candidates who are passionate, driven, and committed to providing truly comprehensive child- and family-centered healthcare.
The Combined Pediatrics Anesthesiology Residency Program is a five-year program and residents are board eligible in both general pediatrics and anesthesia. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about the care of children while developing a solid foundation in anesthesiology. Residents are eligible to purse fellowships in both anesthesia and pediatric specialties after completing the combined program. The training from this residency is uniquely suited for those seeking career opportunities in pediatric critical care medicine, pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric anesthesia, pediatric perioperative care, and pediatric pain medicine.
